GE Microwave Oven – Models JVM3160, JNM3161, AVM4160, RVM5160
See the repair manual for the GE microwave oven below. If you can’t read directions or schematics, it might be better to just buy a new countertop or over-the-range model.
If the microwave is totally dead, the trouble may be an internal fuse.
UNPLUG THE GE MICROWAVE OVEN BEFORE DOING ANYTHING! YOU CAN GET KILLED BY THE VOLTAGES INSIDE A MICROWAVE! LARGE CAPACITORS STORE ENERGY AFTER THE MICROWAVE IS TURNED OFF! DON’T PROCEED UNLESS YOU UNDERSTAND ELECTRICITY!
There is no need to remove the very heavy microwave from the mount when you do this. You can work on the microwave oven in the mounted position over the counter.
Take off all the screws at the front of the top off first. They are holding the vent trim. If you don’t, you will break tabs when you try to remove the trim.
Loosen the vent trim by pulling up and left. Wiggle it off.
The screw to remove the control panel may be hard to find on some GE microwave ovens. First, look just to the left of the control panel where the vent was covering the area. See if there is a screw there. If you don’t see the screw, Get a magnetic Phillips screwdriver and a flashlight and peer down into the TOP VENT right over the control panel. There may be a hidden screw down in there that must be removed before you can lift the control panel up and out. You can’t get the panel off (without breaking it) unless you get this screw out first!
The control panel comes off very easily once all the screws are removed! If you’re forcing it, something is wrong.
Once the control panel is off, the fuse is accessed by removing the perforated metal cover. The glass fuse is mounted on a circuit board right there toward the front of the microwave. Mine was a 20-amp.
